Strategy Advisory

We turn an agreed strategy into something real.

Apirion works alongside insurance executives once a strategy is agreed, carrying it into the organisation and building the capability to run it without us. We stay close as the work moves through the business and hand it back as that capability takes hold. Decision authority remains with the client throughout.

Why

We start with your agenda, not ours.

Every executive carries a set of priorities. The ones presented to the board, the ones inherited, the ones they know need to change. We start there, not with a diagnostic phase designed to produce a project. We help sharpen those priorities where they need sharpening, and we help deliver them.

Some decisions need an advisor who stays close as they move through the organisation. Others need a clear, independent read and then room for management to act. We take the role the situation requires. No more, no less.

We bring clarity to the decision, make dependencies visible, and structure the work so it holds once we are gone.

What

Translating direction, driving performance.

01

Corporate & business unit strategy

We work with boards and executive leadership on the question that precedes every other one: where to compete and how, through corporate and business unit strategy, market sizing and entry assessments, and a planning cycle that survives contact with the business.

02

Growth & distribution strategy

We help distribution leadership win more of the market through go-to-market strategy, channel and partnership models, sales force effectiveness, and internationalisation into new markets.

03

Underwriting & portfolio optimization

We go into the book with underwriting leadership, analysing and improving portfolio performance, appetite and pricing, combined ratio improvement, and the capacity and reinsurance relationships that carry them.

04

Operating model & efficiency

We take on the cost base alongside operations and claims leadership through operating model design, claims improvement programmes, and AI put to work where it earns its keep.

05

Financial performance & turnaround

We take finance leadership through the hard part: profitability diagnostics, cost improvement programmes, and turnaround, whether the book needs sharpening or recovering.

06

Innovation & AI

We build with executive and innovation leadership through new propositions, new business models, and AI where it changes the economics rather than the slide deck.

How

The result, not the runtime.

The right role

We do not arrive with a standing team that needs to be kept busy, and we have no reason to widen a mandate beyond the work in front of it. Our interest is the same as yours: the result, not the runtime.

The person who sits with your executive team is a partner. That does not change as the mandate runs. And an advisor who tells a chief executive what the room wants to hear is of little value. We are direct, but always aware of the context, the people and the dynamics around a decision. We say what needs to be said, in a way that helps move the organization forward.

Alongside the organization

Our mandate comes from the chief executive, but a strategy is not carried by the C-suite. It is carried by the organization. So we work with it, not for it and not from the outside: alongside the executive team, and equally alongside the people a few levels down who turn intent into daily decisions.

We are as comfortable in the boardroom as on the floor, and we move between the two on purpose. It is how a chief executive’s strategy reaches the place it was always meant to reach: the whole company, not the deck.

Built to run without us

The people who will carry the strategy afterwards are part of the work while it is still being shaped. We build capability in the live mandate, through real decisions and real responsibility, not through a handover once the thinking is done.

The mandate ends when the organization can carry the work without us. Not because the calendar says so, but because the decisions, routines and capability now sit where they belong: inside the company.

Project Experience

What this looks like in practice.

Examples

A European insurer, after a new growth strategy

The board had approved an ambitious shift into a new line of business. The strategy was sound. The organization was unsure how to begin. We worked alongside the executive team for the first nine months, sequencing the launch, resolving the structural questions that had stalled, and building a small internal team to carry it forward. We left when that team was running it on its own.

A carrier facing a sensitive structural decision

A chief executive needed to work through a reorganization that was too close to the centre to place with a large consultancy. We worked quietly with a small group around the CEO, testing options, preparing the organization, and supporting the decision through to announcement. A focused mandate, narrow by design, closed once the decision held.

The promise

Built to hand back from the first week, so the strategy runs without us.
