Director (all genders)

Munich

Full time

ABOUT

Apirion was founded by three experienced advisors as a strategy and M&A boutique built entirely around insurance, with the ambition to rethink advisory from the ground up.

Our work begins where decisions start to carry real weight: when insurers make strategic choices that set their direction, investors determine what comes next, or business owners consider the future of what they have built. We combine deep insurance expertise with an advisory model designed deliberately from scratch. Our teams are lean and experienced. Partners stay in the work. AI is built into how we operate.

We can start with the work, not the explaining. Because the future of advisory belongs not to generalists, but to those who truly understand an industry and the people who shape it.

THE ROLE

As a Director, your responsibility extends beyond the individual project. You work with several teams and clients in parallel, develop relationships and new business opportunities, and remain personally involved in the questions that determine the outcome.

Greater responsibility does not create greater distance at Apirion. You work directly with partners, Engagement Managers, Senior Associates and clients. What you bring is additional experience, sound judgement and entrepreneurial responsibility, not another layer of hierarchy.

We do not expect a ready-made book of business at partner level. We do expect a proven ability to develop client relationships, a credible network and the commercial instinct to generate your own conversations and business opportunities from day one.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Take responsibility for several strategy and M&A projects, ensuring that quality, economics and collaboration meet the standard we have set for Apirion.
  • In strategy projects, act as a sparring partner to board members and leadership teams. You sharpen the questions that matter, develop the intellectual direction together with our partners and teams, and help create the clarity and alignment needed for strategic decisions to carry weight across the organisation.
  • In M&A projects, work with the project team to shape the transaction logic and the path to the right outcome. You bring your judgement to critical questions of positioning, valuation, process and negotiation, and remain personally involved at the moments that matter.
  • Develop lasting relationships with insurers, investors and business owners. You understand their agendas, recognise relevant questions early and turn them into new projects together with the client.
  • Take an active role in business development. You lead your own client conversations and develop proposals, scope and fees together with the partners and teams involved.
  • Develop Engagement Managers while continuing to work directly with Senior Associates, Associates and interns. You provide direction without creating unnecessary layers and enable others to take responsibility and grow through it.
  • Build Apirion’s expertise and visibility in selected areas and represent our point of view in the market.
  • Work with our partners and the wider team to evolve our methods, use of AI and internal structures. As Apirion grows, you help preserve the closeness, quality and culture for which we founded the firm.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Extensive experience in strategy consulting, including responsibility for several projects and teams in parallel.
  • A long-standing focus on the insurance industry. You understand its business models, decision-making processes and key players, and have established professional credibility within the market.
  • The breadth and curiosity to advise clients on M&A-related questions, including the sale of a business.
  • Credible relationships with board members, senior executives, investors or business owners across the German insurance market, together with a proven ability to develop client relationships and new business opportunities.
  • Intellectual strength and sound commercial judgement. You recognise the questions that genuinely matter to clients, turn them into a compelling proposition and remain accountable once the work begins.
  • The ability to lead through more than title. You provide direction, build trust and develop leaders and teams with clarity and appreciation.
  • A deliberate choice to take on the entrepreneurial responsibility of a boutique. You see culture, market positioning and business development as part of your role and want to shape Apirion for the long term together with the founders and the wider team.
  • A university degree in a discipline relevant to our work.
  • Fluency in both German and English.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Entrepreneurial responsibility across several projects, client relationships and the continued development of Apirion.
  • Direct collaboration with the founders and colleagues at every level of experience.
  • The opportunity to turn established relationships and subject-matter expertise into a distinctive market position within Apirion.
  • Partners and teams who remain alongside you in the work and in the client moments that matter, even as your responsibility grows.
  • A boutique that is still being built and where your contribution is visible from day one.

HOW TO APPLY

Send us your CV and a few personal lines on your connection to the insurance industry, the areas and types of client relationships you have developed, and why you would like to help build Apirion. Please do not share confidential client information. A formal cover letter is not required.
